Sustainable Livestock:

More Production, More Environment

Roadmap to Reduce Methane Emissions Intensity

With support from the Climate & Clean Air Coalition (CCAC), the Argentine Association of Regional Consortia for Agricultural Experimentation (CREA) and Clean Air Task Force (CATF) are leading a pioneering project to encourage the beef-cattle sector to produce more and better, while aligning with the reduction of methane-emissions intensity. The goal: to provide evidence, tools, and training to advance toward more efficient, resilient cattle production aligned with the country’s climate commitments.

Why Is This Project Key?

Why Is This Project Key?
This project aims to support the cattle sector on a path of innovation and sustainability, demonstrating that it is possible to produce more and better with a lower climate impact and greater opportunities for the sector. In Argentina, working toward more and better in beef production means:

Greater productive efficiency: better resource use and more beef with fewer emissions.

Expanded market access opportunities, increasingly oriented toward food traceability and sustainability.

Progress toward climate-smart livestock, reducing the environmental footprint and reducing methane intensity without compromising production.

Strengthened resilience of cattle systems in the face of droughts, floods, and desertification processes.

Contributions to food security and rural development, aligning cattle production with global sustainability objectives.

What Does This Roadmap Propose?

This project seeks to align national climate goals with the needs of producers, providing government and producers with concrete tools to move toward low-emissions, high-efficiency cattle systems.

Main objectives:

Develop and approve a national roadmap to reduce the intensity of methane emissions in the beef cattle sector.

Design a portfolio of prioritized projects by region and technology.

Strengthen producer knowledge through practical training.

Improve the national monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) system by incorporating short-lived climate pollutants.

Next steps

Participatory validation of the roadmap with sector stakeholders.
1
Coordination with national and provincial policies.
2
Design of technical training instances for producers.
3
Implementation of pilots and strengthening of institutional capacities.
